God's Pain & God's Pleasure

The Pain
It would be as incorrect to assume God’s disinterest and non-involvement in human affairs as it would be to assume His callous harshness in judging His erring creation. In actual fact, God’s deep distress is beautifully expressed in verse 6: “The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.” The word “grieved” is related pointedly to the words “sorrow” and “toil” (Gen. 3:16-17) Which was the unhappy predicament of Adam and Eve after their transgressions. Plainly we can see that God did not exempt Himself from feeling the pain and anguish that sin had introduced into His creation. The thought that God was sorry that He had created man is as unnerving as the thoughts a child has when an angry parent tells him that “I’m sorry I had you”. God, however is not “angry “ with man; His distraught and grieved and is thinking in terms of grace up to the moment of judgement.

The Pleasure To attempt to understand God, we must consider not only His righteous indignation but also His grace. God knows that not all of His creation are concerned with grace or motivated by divine favor, God’s pleasure is defined by dispensing grace and, in doing so, discovering those who willingly and passionately accept Him. In those days, there stood one man who understood the pleasure of God, Noah. A synopsis of verses 8 and 9 would be, “and Noah walked with God”. Even in these perilous times where we find ourselves now, it is expedient that we “walk” along the path of righteousness. If it is true success and wealth that are our vision, then it is tantamount to that success for us to have a clearly defined goal for which we are reaching. Please be careful that the goal is ultimately the wisdom of God, life eternal with Him, a close and personal relationship with Him. This portion of the Book of Genesis clearly tells us that we must seek first the Kingdom of God and all of the other things that we need and want will be added unto us.
